Entryway
Our entryway was dark and uninviting when we bought this house. The new front door and the staircase remodel completely changed all of that.
Welcome to our home...
This is the door that welcomed guest to our home, but let’s be honest… this isn’t very welcoming. The foyer seemed dark and didn’t get enough light. We didn’t like that the door appeared so narrow and definitely looked outdated. Even after painting the walls, replacing the flooring and painting the door black, we still did not care for the look.
The view from the other side...
As you walk through our front door, the first thing you see is the stairway. For some reason, someone had added those nice thick glass pieces on the ledges around the stairs. The rails were an orange oak color and the carpet was beyond gross. That definitely needed to go. The one part of the stairway that we really loved were those 3 windows.
Our vision comes to life...
I have to be honest. I had a very strong image of what I wanted. We had this door custom made for our home and we could not wait for it to arrive. When they unloaded it off the truck, we were ecstatic! It was exactly what we had invisioned. We were even more excited that they were able to install it and fix the trim on both the inside and outside of the house on the same day.
The stair rails were actually replaced first.
The same company who made our front door, also made our custom stair rails. I was so excited to get them installed, but once they were, I immediately started making plans to remove the carpet and replace with beautiful wood treads!
Look at the difference!
It honestly doesn’t even look like the same house! The new front door allows so much light into our home. It also gave us views of mountains that we couldn’t see through the old door that was there. The new stairway is so clean and so modern. I also removed the glass pieces on the ledges, replaced them with wood trim and painted them. To finish it all off, we added some wainscoting to the walls going up the stair way. And those windows I mentioned earlier… love them so much more with the new look of the stairway!
Looks like a new home...
This update instantly changed the entire feel of our home. People often ask how we feel about a front door that you can see through. As you can tell from the photo, during the day, the reflections make it impossible to see inside. And even if you can see inside, you can not see into any of the rooms that we spend time in. Having the view out of our front door is definitely worth it!
